We are professional makeup artists and constantly throw away brushes, sometimes after one use. But, we will answer this question for personal makeup users.

Makeup brushes used near or around the eye should be washed after every use. This includes (shadow brushes, eyeliner brushes, and concealer brushes). It is very easy to transfer germs near the eye so we must be very strict with these types of brushes. I would recommend replacing these after 18-24 months.

Larger makeup brushes for foundation, blush, bronzer, etc; should be washed after every 2-3 uses and be kept for about 24-30 months.

Use your discretion. If the bristles are stiff and it takes a long time to get your brushes clean. Time to re-up!

xoxo,

The politically correct answer is yes. BUT…With proper skincare and maintenance you can minimize and almost negate the negative skin effects of makeup. The issue with makeup is covering up problem areas that can then be aggravated even more by the makeup. If you have sensitive skin, try looking for noncomedogenic makeup. Noncomedogenic is just a fancy word for products that do not clog your pores. But be sure to cleanse and moisturize your face before applying any time of makeup. And even more importantly remove all makeup before you go to bed at night.

The most important thing for photo-shoot makeup is foundation. I recommend Make Up Forever Invisible HD foundation. It has an amazing formula that picks up great on film. It can do light-to-full coverage, you can mix colors to achieve the perfect match for almost any skin tone, and it doesn’t show up ashy in pictures! Everything else (eye shadow, blush, bronzer, etc., can be used at your discretion), but foundation is the key to looking flawless on camera. Check out the picture below where all 3 models have on this foundation.
