This week the gang had to create a dress that will be sold in Lord & Taylor stores as part of a 10 piece Project Runway line made up of designs by one designer from each season of the show. The design had to be easy enough to reproduce while keeping with the aesthetic of the Lord & Taylor customer. It was no small feat to few, yet some had meltdowns i.e. Sonji’s in the design room and Elana at judging.

But surprise! No one went home. Check what the ever heelarry Michael Kors had to say as well as our critique below.

Top Four

Fabio: Fabio created a cute day to night dress with lots of legs. Come on, like how chic would this be to wear to a funeral and then a bar mitzvah? Options people!

Kors Quote: “Asymmetrical is tough to do well. It can look like your Guinevere from Camelot and it can look costumey. But it’s looks polished.”

Christopher: We’re kinda mixed on this. On a paler skin person, the dress would be glamorous yet we’re not to sure the versatility it has on someone of color. It would be kinda of bland.

Kors Quote: “It’s a gown that looks like separates, shirt and skirt.”

Melissa: Melissa loves a clavicle moment per her continued moment from two weeks ago. Yet she knocks it out the park with this number. Just one thing, brocade is a amazing!!!

Kors Quote: “The bronze is a good way to have dark glamour. The asymmetry went too far. It looks like she has a bell hanging from the end. I want to cut it off.”

Elana: We’re so happy for Elana. Finally the girl gets a major nod from the judges and us.

Kors Quote: “This dress is an example of fashion meets commerce. She looks nice and nasty.”

Bottom Two

Gunnar: We agree with the judges, the lace and sparkle looks like what every designer has created so far. Yet, this one just screams of a Real Housewives Christmas edition.

Kors Quote: “It looks like a dress that they already carry and Lord and Taylor. It looks a bit blah and can turn into mother of the bride.”

Alicia: Alicia’s dress wasn’t bad but her sappy ass monologue about how she doesn’t make “girlie clothes” was a real letdown. It was like Ben Stein talking about Givenchy.

Kors Quote: “ The dress looks like a field hockey uniform. The neckline looks Amish, it’s giving ‘oooh don’t look at me’.”

Winner: Christopher

Loser: No one

Next week: More drama ensues as the crew work in pairs. Things don’t look good between Dimitri  and Elana. Let the battle commence!

Last week on Project Runway, was a Michael Kors challenge, so clearly this week it was Nina Garcia’s turn! Not only were the designers up against a Nina challenge involving a photo shoot for  Marie Claire @ Work, but they had to deal with each other. That’s right. ANOTHER TEAM CHALLENGE. Bring on the drama! From Gunnar hating everyone’s ideas on his team to Elena acting like a deranged animal, there is never a dull moment when the contestants have to…dare we say it…work together. 

In addition, the winner got a spread in Marie Claire @ Work while the loser of course went home….Let’s check out who made it to the top and who were in the bottom three!

Top Three

Melissa: Finally the girl gets some recognition that she deserves! Melissa created a striking blue dress with an amazing collar. It’s modern, it’s chic….and every woman would want to wear it.

Kors Quote: “The dress is very strong looking but at the same time believable in an office. You made her edgier looking which I believe is very you.” 

Fabio: What’s black and white and we’re drooling over? Only this amazing dress by Fabio. FINALLY we see something by the intriguing man that finally fits his personal style.

Kors Quote:  “My favorite garment is by Fabio’s. I know women in their 60’s who would wear this dress.” 

Christopher: Who doesn’t love a print skirt with great texture? We know we do! And paired with black and white accents? Total perfection.

Kors Quote: “Skirt….brilliant. It’s your trademark. You made the old lady cooler.” 

Bottom Three

Elena: ENOUGH with the shoulders. We get it. We’re officially bored and so are the judges.

Kors Quote: “It looks like everyone did their own thing.”

Raul: Raul created very boring and unflattering tops. A bit of advice…if you’re going to be cocky, at least be talented.

Kors Quote: “Unflattering and not executed well.”

Gunnar: A new rule of thumb….if your model looks like she has saggy boobs, your garment is a FAIL. Done and done.

Kors Quote: “The pleating in the silk crepe is very unflattering. It’s the soufflé that flopped.”

Winner: Team 6….and one of our favorites….Melissa!!!

Loser: You are the weakest link….again…Raul. GOODBYE!

After the wins and the glory of the past 16 days, the Olympics have concluded. In a star-studded closing ceremony, just magnificent as the opening, the event featured tons of performances, lots of theatrics, a special tribute to London’s art, music and fashion scene as well as so ridiculously loud outfits.  And you know there’s nothing better than a major event show than having critics pick it apart lol. Best Entrance and Somewhat Surprise: The Spice Girls

This was pretty much the Spice Girls’ night. Rumors swirled last week that the second best fab 5, behind the Beatles of course, would reunite. Yet we had no idea they would show up and out like this. We especially loved Mel B’s glittery Zuhair Murad cat suit. Cure for the Monday blues: singing “Spice Up Your Life” atop a custom beetle while blowing glitter.

Coneheads Born in the UK?

As trippy as The Pet Shop Boys’ entrance was, you have to admit that their coneheads and maybe Margiela(?) furry jackets were so on point! We want.

The Real ‘Midas Touch’

Where would fashion be without Great Britain? From Kate Moss to Alexander McQueen, the Queen’s country has brought us many fashion exports and as tribute supermodels such as Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Stella Tennant, Jourdan Dunn and others wore GB designs from Alexander McQueen and Jonathan Saunders in a gold themed presentation paying tribute to the famous Nick Knight show “Midas Touch” for Vogue.

Confuzzled by Emeli Sande

When UK artist Emeli Sande came out during the ceremony, we were amazed by her vocals. And although we didn’t know who she was at first (we Googled her), we found out that she’s pretty much the next coming of Adele. But instead of Adele belting “Someone Like You” we were left with Sande’s performance in this terrible outfit. She looks like she’s about to go to war with Urban Outfitters. Maybe the next time we see her, she’ll have a style upgrade.

Ready for Rio?

What better way to get ready for the next Olympic Games in Rio than having Brazilian export and Vicky Secret’s model, Alessandra Ambrosio come out? Yeah, we like for every mention of the Rio Olympic Games to have Ambrosio come out.

After a sixteen day sports competition full of international rivalries and gold metals galore obviously the most perfect way to close the London Olympic  games was with a Spice Girls reunion. Sporty, Baby, Scary, Posh, and Ginger Spice transported Olympic Stadium back to the ’90s, entering in custom traditional black cabs to perform hits “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life”.

This marked the first public Spice Girls reunion since 2004 and they looked fab while doing so. Of the course we had to hunt down what the ladies wore during their epic Olympic appearance, blending fashion into this well balance mix of music and sports.

Last night’s episode of Project Runway was INTENSE to say the least. Not only did Andrea up and leave in the middle of the night but after this news hit Kooan decided he wanted to leave as well (and we are not going to lie…we were very interested in seeing what else he would design!) The remaining designers were a bit distraught (with the exception of Rauel who was asked to come back after being eliminated) but as Tim Gunn says the contestants had to “make it work!” The designers met up with Tim and Michael Kors at his new store and were introduced to their challenge: to make an outfit for the woman on the go. It was essential for the garments to be versatile, practical, comfortable, yet stylish and with the designers own aesthetics. With tensions built high, the contestants were fighting to prove that they were still in it to win it. Let’s look at the top and bottom three!

THE TOP THREE

Sonjia: Her look was for a woman who had a lot going on during the day. According to Sonjia, this woman could wear this dress “with her hair up from her hair down, from flats to pumps” and we totally ate it up! The jersey was a great fit and yet the silhouette was so sophisticated.

Kors Quote: “What I like is that you didn’t make it a black dress. By making it with the gray jersey you can load it up with diamonds or wear it with riding boots.”

Christopher: According to Christopher (who is quickly moving up to be one of our favs) his amazing dress was for a sophisticated woman who was going out to dinner with her husband but she had to wear the dress all day. The leather jacket was amazing by itself, even Hayden Panettiere wanted to steal it.

Kors Quote: “Listen this challenge was about how women have to deal with being dressed all day without giving glamour of fashion up and you nailed it.”

Dmitry: This man knows how to create a fabulous garment. It was sexy and glamourous and we don’t know a single woman who wouldn’t want this dress in her wardrobe.

Kors Quote: “Hands down it is the best made garment we have seen today.”

Winner: Sonjia….we love her!!

THE BOTTOM THREE

Buffi: Pink sheer fabric over zebra. Cheap, cheap, cheap! Enough said!

Kors Quote: “It looks like a hair dressing smock. Like she was cutting her hair, there was a fire in the salon, she belted and ran out. The hem is coo coo too.”

Fabio: Apparently this look was for a woman on her day off. If it were up to us, we’d rather just wear sweats. And that’s saying  A LOT.

Kors Quote: “I looked at this and I was kind of taking aback that you went so structured. I like what you’re wearing. I keep waiting to see what you are presenting on yourself but I want to see it on your clothes.”

Raul: This was a whole lot of look which was poorly accessorized and very forced. If you have to convince yourself of your own design, there’s a problem.

Kors Quote: “You know I hated it when it first came out. And I have to say that it jacket was on death watch and you belted it. It’s just all kind of confused”

Loser: Buffi….which makes us sad because we loved her and her accent…just not her designs.

NEXT WEEK: A Nina Garcia challenge! The contestants work in teams of two which means…lots of fighting! Yay!!!

Last night on Project Runway, it was the dreaded team challenge! We know how this goes, no one wants to work with one another and there are always GREAT fights. In addition to working together, the teams had to create a red carpet look for a client to wear to the Emmy’s inspired by the color of their Lexus GS they were assigned. And who were theses clients? Former contestants on Project Runway of course!! So along with the bickering of the teams and blending of ideas, throw in a client who not only has been in their shoes but who knows exactly what they want to wear. And did we mention that the winning designer would be accompanying their client to the Emmy’s? Talk about sweetening the deal. The pressure was on for the contestants and things got fiery! Let’s take a look at the top and bottom two looks in this week’s Kors Quotes!

TOP TWO TEAMS

Ven and Fabio (Kenley): One for vintage inspired clothing, Kenley wanted something clean and sophisticated with a modern twist. The navy dress Ven and Fabio created for her was very structured yet feminine dress that was very representative of Jackie O. It clearly fit Kenley’s taste.

Kors Quote: “It’s not the dress everyone is going to rave about on the red carpet but I think the best thing about it is that you were able to hold on to your aesthetic. You guys really stepped it up.”

Gunnar and Kooan (Irina); Not an easy client to please, Irena had some high expectations for her gown. Gunnar and Kooan made a decently put together white gown (a little reminiscent of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford gown) with a  high neckline and a shoulder scarf. The color made her stand out considering white on the red carpet is very on trend.

Kors Quote: “I think the silhouette is spot on for her. I think you understood your client. That you really did because she looks gorgeous.”

THE WINNER: Ven!!! 2 weeks in a row!!!

BOTTOM TWO TEAMS

Raul and Alicia (Mila): Raul and Alicia couldn’t reiterate more how they are use to dealing with menswear and how they have never created a gown before. Well, it showed (maybe they should have done a suit.) Not only was the dress depressing and lack luster, but Raul slapped on this hideous ponytail extension that looked like straw.

Kors Quote:  (Regarding the extensions) “There is a horse somewhere missing his tail!”…“You have got to go with your strengths guys!”

Andrea and Christopher (Anya): Anya had probably the coolest style on last season on Project Runway (hence why she won), however, Christopher and Andrea didn’t take advantage of that. Not only was the color horrendous, the construction of the gown was dated and poorly executed. Anya didn’t even look like herself. It was a total missed opportunity.

Kors Quote:  “The slit on that skirt silhouette is very pageant, very old fashion. Gold was smart because otherwise she’s a walking Hershey bar. No matter what happens you have to listen to your gut. It’s very disappointing.”

THE LOSER: Raul

Next week: The gang heads to the Michael Kors store and more contestants drop like flies!!!

Let’s see whose garment was super sweet and which was just plain sour.

The Top Three

Gunnar: Referred to by Christopher as the “evil twin,” Gunnar pulled out an amazing black and white checkered dress made of licorice with a black candy wrapper peplum. Quite frankly, you could put a peplum on gym shorts and we’d love it.

Kors Quote: “I like that you thought about it head to toe and you thought about her body when you put it together. It’s a transformation. That’s the point of the challenge. Well done.”

Ven: With a similar silhouette as a previous design, Ven created an amazing dress made with black licorice lining and crushed pastel candies to create a stain glass appearance.

Kors Quote: “I didn’t know what you used. Is it powder? Is it rock candy? I love the asymmetry. You didn’t over accessorize it. You really understand women bodies. Hat’s off!”

Sonjia: Using jelly beans, gumballs, and gummy sharks Sonjia created an aquatic themed dress that was fun and bright. We loved how it looked like little sea stones in an ombre pattern.

Kors Quote: “It’s really tough to take a lot of different things and make them look connected. I love the surprise in the back. It’s really really well done.”

The Winner: Ven!!! Although he is a bit arrogant, no one can say that he is not EXTREMELY talented. So far, we’d make any of the garments he’s made.

The Bottom Three

Lantie: Not only did she use fabric from an umbrella, but Lentie’s dress looked like a Rainbow Bright costume on acid.

Kors Quote: “The same problems you had on the last challenge you had all over again. You didn’t transform the fabric. It seems like you are a decorator.”

Buffi: A pink nightmare, Buffi claimed that she was going for a Carrie Bradshaw sort of look. SJP would never be caught dead in that over accessorized mess.

Kors Quote:  “I mean you might have wanted Carrie Bradshaw but she’s more like Toddlers in Tiaras gone bezerk.” “If someone saw her walking down the street someone would probably put money in her cup”

Elena: We liked the idea of Elena’s white licorice structured dress however we didn’t anticipate it falling apart on the runway, or that the model would look like a linebacker….OR that the candy would look like macaroni.

Kors Quote: “To me she just looks like Rigatoni Mad Max. It took all the joy out of candy.”

The Loser: Lanti. All we can say is FINALLY! She should have been kicked off last week.

Talk about a blast from the past! Remember when Cindy Crawford used to pump around Paris during Paris Fashion Week interviewing the likes of Jean Paul Gauliter and Isaac Mizrahi with an MTV mic before walking in their shows? Yeah, I’m talking about MTV’s House of Style. The beloved 90’s show is coming back and getting a bit of a face lift.

MTV announced today that ‘House of Style’ is getting a revival of sorts. The revamped version will return this fall on MTV.com as a digital show before it makes it on TV. But get this; MTV.com is streaming the whole ‘House of Style’ archive online. So all you nostalgia crazed fashion hipsters get to streaming!

Back again for it’s 10^th season (!) – and riding high off its latest Emmy nomination – Heidi, Tim, Michael and Nina are back! This season of Project Runway brings us 16 more fabulous, ambitious and hungry designers ready for their shot at the big time. We have the requisite kooky older woman, the skilled craftsman, two fabulous gays with big personalities (that already hate each other) and the bizarre Japanese guy (who has an orange afro with pick). All that’s missing is the straight guy (as far as we can tell). Lorelai Gilmore Lauren Graham provided guest judging expertise along with the amazing Patricia Field.

But who was crowned the winner, who sent packing and whose look was deemed “borderline teletubby?” Let’s get straight into the recap with the best and worst.

The Top Three

Ven: His first look is a pink rose bustier with white palazzo pants, followed by a hot pink mini dress with impeccable tailoring. We like the dress, but are concerned that the first look is a little – ahem – mature.

Kors Quote: “You tailored fabric that is really tough to tailor, but… you really did think about her body.”

Christopher: His first look is a black minidress with gorgeous detailing, followed by a flowing black gown that fit the model flawlessly. So sexy!

Kors Quote: “The toughest thing is to do something that’s very labor intensive but make it look effortless… But what didn’t work for me is the ways these girls are styled.”

Melissa: The Rick Owens look. That’s really all you need to know.

Kors Quote: “The minute they turned the corner, I know your vibe.”

The Winner: Christopher takes this one. He is our favorite of the feuding divas, because he’s actually nice (take note, Gunnar).

The Bottom Three

Beatrice: We ADORED the looks she presented at the “Road to the Runway” auditions, but this sweaterdress and aztec-print cape combo was a little lackluster, as were the separates that came after.

Kors Quote: “Everyone loves comfort, everyone loves easiness, but that’s not enough. It doesn’t tell me who you are as a designer.”

Lantie: Acceptable vintage-inspired white lace dress, followed by hideous vintage-inspired dress with overlay and random python swath on chest. Patricia Field described it as “one step below design.” Ouch!

Kors Quote: “I don’t know what you’re trying to say other than ‘vintagey looking textiles.’ It looks like it’s made out of muddy mosquito netting. I don’t know what the story is other than a textile story, and I don’t think the textiles are so great.”

Kooan: Polka-dotted overalls, followed by a shiny zip-up dress-type-thing. We suspect his whole collection has been overnighted to Opening Ceremony post-broadcast. We really want to like it, and we LOVE him.

Kors Quote: “Obviously you have a look and it’s certainly not something that would go unnoticed. But even if ‘cartoon’ is your thing, you don’t want it to be a joke. She’s borderline Teletubby.”

The Loser: Beatrice. We cannot believe Lantie, who is supposedly 48 years old but looks 35 and acts 20, was given a second chance after that heinous python scrap pile. Best of luck, Beatrice – if we’re ever in LA, we want your number.

D’Angelo’s Back

In keeping with the trend of R&B singer comebacks (think El Debarge from the 2010 awards), D’Angelo provided this year’s comeback singing – well, might we add – his hit “How Does It Feel (Untitled)” before lunging into a funk set. It’s good to see him back after a 12 year hiatus performing on television, but really the prison jumpsuit though?

Soulja Boy Crying

The Whitney Houston tribute portion in the show was nonetheless moving. A lot of people shed tears including Beyonce which was strange. It was like seeing your parents naked or something. But, Soulja Boy took the cake for the most tears shed by a celebrity. Seriously dude, we’re all for emotional outcries but it’s not a good look when you have several face tats and dirty nails to ball like a baby on national television.

Whitney Houston Tribute

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during the Whitney Houston tribute. But it wasn’t necessarily a somber occasion. Brandy and Chaka Khan brought much life to the tribute singing Whitney’s hits while Monica and Whitney’s mother Cissy Houston left no dry eyes in the house performing moving renditions of “I Love the Lord” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water”.

Jay-Z Kanyed Kanye

It’s not often Kanye is upstaged, but leave it to Jay-Z to do it. Jay Kanye’d Kanye, saying “I’mma let you finish” to him when winning the Video of the Year award last night. Somewhere Taylor Swift’s wish upon a star came true.

Nicki Minaj’s Performs…Well

Let’s rejoice! Nicki Minaj finally puts on a great performance. Not to say that the others were bad, just lackluster. She even got to work in a booty wiggle or two while she performed her hit, “Beez in the Trap”.
